Updating Asset Trustline
What is a Trustline?
To hold any asset other than XLM, your Stellar account needs to explicitly opt in—this is done by creating a trustline.
A trustline is a permission that allows your account to:
Hold a specific asset
Set a holding limit
Track your balance and liabilities for that asset
Think of a trustline as a handshake between your wallet and the asset issuer—it says “Yes, I trust and want to hold this token.”
💡 When do you need a trustline?
Receiving assets: You can’t receive any non-XLM asset unless your account has a trustline for it.
Creating assets: If you're issuing a new asset, you can also create a trustline to hold it or test transactions.
Claimable Balances: Even if someone sends you an asset using a claimable balance, you must create a trustline before you can claim it.
⚖️ What else does a trustline do?
Trustlines also manage liabilities:
Buying liabilities: How much of the asset you’re offering to buy
Selling liabilities: How much of the asset you’re offering to sell
Your balance and trustline limits must always account for these liabilities.
